The Warsaw Police Department is hiring for the position of a full-time police officer. Applicants should have completed NCBLET and be eligible to possess a Probationary Certification from CJ Training and Standards. Hiring salary depending on qualifications, education, and experience. Our Officers are responsible for general patrol duties including community-based policing and proactive traffic and drug enforcement. Job Description
Under general direction, this service position works within the Criminal Investigation Division of the Police Department and performs investigations of alleged or suspected criminal violations of state and local laws. This position requires the Investigator to work autonomously on a wide variety of cases including narcotics violations, sexual offenses, and crimes involving juveniles.
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Investigates alleged or suspected criminal violations.
- Collects documents and disseminates intelligence information regarding criminal activities or the actions of known criminals.
- Conducts, interviews, and obtains statements from victims, witnesses, and suspects of alleged crimes.
- Prepares and submits cases to the appropriate prosecuting officials for the purpose of initiating criminal action against offenders.
- Initiates appropriate investigative action to specific situations in the absence of direct supervision.
- Provides assistance to the Patrol Division or other offices when so directed or requested.
- Collects, packages, and preserves physical evidence in a manner which insures the admissibility of such evidence in a court of law.
- Obtains and uses search and arrest warrants.
- Performs undercover assignments and surveillance activities when necessary.
- Cooperates with investigators from outside agencies in the investigation of criminal activity.
- Testifies in court and before grand juries concerning criminal activity investigations.
- Responds to calls for investigative assistance on off-duty time when necessary.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience
Four (4) years of police experience

- Possess a driver’s license valid in the state of North Carolina
- Possess a current North Carolina Law Enforcement Certification

OPEN APPLICATION PERIOD – Administrative Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
The Administrative Assistant supports the Chief of Police and designated supervisors in a variety of complex and confidential duties including managing personnel records, gathering information for grants, and preparing reports. The minimum qualifications for the position require: three years of administrative and clerical work experience; a high school diploma; or equivalent combination. An associate’s degree from a two-year college or technical school is highly desirable. Bilingual, fluent in Spanish preferable. The position is Full Time with a base salary starting at $19.85 hourly. Higher starting salary and future increases depend on qualifications, experience and job performance. Compensation includes the following benefits: medical, dental and vision insurance; retirement system; life and long-term disability insurance; vacation and sick leave; and paid holidays. Must be a self-starter who is able to take the initiative to identify and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Coordinates calendar and schedules events;
Receives phone calls and electronic mail and responds accordingly;
Communicates with staff and other various departments;
Prepares meeting materials;
Serves as a liaison with other departments;
Helps the Chief of Police develop an annual departmental budget;
Reviews past expenditures and future needs to improve budget;
Analyzes travel expense reports, petty cash requests, invoices, receipts, and checks requests;
Enters all payroll information into electronic system;
Maintains documents by organizing a filing system for designated paperwork;
Assists with gathering information requested pertaining to specific documents;
Keeps track of all financial records;
Reserves and manages venues for meetings and functions;
Maintains a positive image for the Town while interacting with citizens and other departments;
Serves as the Departmental historian; and
Assists with facility maintenance and cleaning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED, supplemented by course work in office systems technology or related field; and
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible secretarial, administrative, or clerical experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures including managing financial data, stenography, and transcription the English language including rules of composition and grammar principles and processes for providing high quality customer services.
Skilled in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents talking to others to convey information effectively managing one's own time and productivity.
Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences read and understand information and ideas presented in writing operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the public.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Notary Public (required within 120 days of hire)
NC SBI DCI certification preferred
